Frequently Asked Mentor Questions and Answers

Mentor Questions

Seniors,

I have been getting a lot of questions about mentors.  Here are a few answers to many of the questions I am getting.

  • Can my mentor be a family member?
    • Yes, your mentor can be a family member; many people choose the career path of one of their family members.
  • Can I have a mentor under the age of 21?
    • No, It is crucial to choose a mentor who has experience in their profession so that they can give you insight into their profession. Most people do not start their careers until after the age of 21.
  • How many hours do I need with my mentor?
    • None. If you want to job shadow or work with your mentor and they agree to it, that is fine, but all that is required from your mentor is for them to sit down with you, preferably in person,  over the phone, or Webex, and answer your mentor interview questions.  This should not take more than a half hour of their time.
  • How do I find a mentor?
    • The best way to find a mentor is to ask around.  Start with asking adults whom you think might know a lot of people.  You can always email me, and I will reach out if I know someone, but I do not always have someone available.
  • What if I have to change my mentor after completing the form?
    • No worries, things change all the time.  The important thing is if your original mentor falls through, you find a new one.  Once you find a new one, email me their name, occupation, and contact info.

I hope this answers a few questions for you. If you have any other questions, please email me or come by my room 907; you can also schedule an in-person appointment through email. I am available every morning before school or during both lunches.

Thanks,

Mr. Wheeland
